Well, it's not really all that new anymore, as we installed a Wiki a few weeks ago, but we have been struggling trying to figure out how to exactly implement it.

The idea for getting a wiki was offered by some of you, worried that the official wiki might at some point go the same road as the official forum did (we do not expect or anticipate this to happen, but considering the lack of recent updates might provide more reason for having a backup). So we installed a brand new wikipedia database and application, and then ran into a blank as to how we would set it up.

Should we have a wiki similar to the AfterWiki one, or should we try and come up with a new and possibly more intuitive way of storing information in there? We have some basic ideas, but some of these turn out to be extremely tedious to implement.

So we figure we'd involve you guys in the decision process. Please let us hear your thoughts on the matter. You can find the wiki by navigating to http://www.afterworldforum.com/wiki. In due time, when deemed succesful, we shall add a link to the navigation menu for it as well.

One of the cool features about the wiki we installed here, by the way, is that it integrates seamlessly with the forum. If you have a forum account, you will not need to login to the wiki in order to contribute.

    Oh wow, neat setup.

It auto logs your userid in from the forums :)

Hard to comment on the wiki at this time.

A lot has changed ingame as far as loot attributed to each mob and maturity bands since the last VU.
A lot will also change in an upcoming VU in reference to crafting skills.

The main wiki hosted by Afterworld as I understand it currently has very few updating it nowdays - Some have handed back their sysop access.

I think a new wiki will need to take form at some point to cover the spectrum of what has changed and what is to come.

Tutorials I feel should be re-developed to be clear and concise.

Something like the good old guides that were developed on entropiadirectory.com years ago that were very helpful in covering different areas of the EU game - basic & advanced.
I guess these sort of guides best be developed on the forums by users first then uploaded to wiki at a later date.

One point though, you will want to be careful at this stage how much energy you invest into updating data on the wiki as it is likely so much will soon change with the remaining skills implementation - Fine tuning and balancing, distribution of resources to meet crafting shortfalls etc.

All in all, I think this would be grea project to lift off the ground over time.

From what I gathered, that has been reversed.

Not sure if this is true, but the way I understand it is a some people are/were worried because some of their changes were reversed or undone without explanation, which would defeat the idea of a wiki.

Anyway, feel free to bounce some ideas around. For the time being, we will keep the wiki, albeit we will try and figure out a way for it to complement rather than compete with the official one.

Some of the thoughts you put into your post had already occurred to us as well, and as soon as I find some more time, I will try and finish someof the work in progress I have, and see how our ideas are received by the players.

We've taken the wiki offline for the time being. The official wiki is being maintained again, so having 2 might seem a bit redundant.

Participating in AW is near impossible without the wiki, so redundancy shouldn't be a problem really. (DDOS still fresh in mind!)

ps. Approaching the wiki url http://www.afterworldforum.com/wiki now presents a plain PHP file as a download!

The "official" Wiki has never been in a position where it has not been maintained :wise:

There may be days when there are fewer contributions than others but the site is checked regulary every day.
